Thanks also to everyone who got involved with the teams on the field, on the phone making plans, solving problems and giving our players the best chance of being successful. The ladies section of the club had a very successful year.  The U14 (Muintir na nGael) reached the West Cork final but were beaten by St Colums.

Congratulations and well done to the reformed Junior Ladies team who were crowned West Cork Junior B Champions and Junior County league Champions. Sincere thanks to Brian McCarthy and Padraig Kiely for all their hard work

I wish to thank the grounds committee Dinny O Driscoll, John Keohane, Sean O Farrell, Martin Russell  and Tadgh O Farrell for all their time and good work, developing and monitoring the pitch and grounds and preparing it for matches.

I wish to thank all those especially parents and mentors who helped with the transport of players to games near and far away, in good, fair and bad weather and who were unselfish with their time when it was required of them.

A special thanks to the Drimoleague Inn for facilitating us with a room for club meeting during the year.

Finally, last but by no means least, a special mile buiochas to our lotto committee who performed their weekly task of completing all the necessary chores to ensure the proper executes of our weekly lotto draw. Their time and commitment is deeply appreciated by the club.

The club deeply appreciates their contribution and with regard to the success of our lotto. The club is deeply indebted to all those who contributed to the lotto by buying and selling tickets and those who allow the club the facility of their retail premises to be a selling point for lotto tickets to their customers.

On behalf of the club, I wish to convey our condolences and sincerest sympathies to all club members present and former who suffered family bereavement during 2016. Especially to the family of our esteemed vice –chairman Vin Forbes

Well this is my valedictory speech as chairman of Clann na nGael. When I was approached three years ago to let my name go forward for election at the club AGM, I was initially reluctant but eventually decided to give it my commitment for one year, however my term turned out to last two more years. It was indeed an honour to serve as Chairman.

I am well aware that commitment is a very important factor with regard to the position of Chairman of the GAA club. Over the past six months I knew myself that I was unable to give that level of commitment due to work etc. I wish to offer my apologises to the club for that fact and I sincerely hope the situation will be rectified at this AGM with the election of a new chairman. The club and all its hard working members deserve full commitment from the person at the helm. I’m sure a fresh face will help steer the club forward in a positive direction and ensure that many of the clubs ambitious development plans are realised and will help the club confront the serious challenges that are there for the small rural club, many of them similar to the challenges that are facing other small GAA clubs throughout the country.

As already indicated I was honoured to serve and I am indeed very grateful to all club people who have assisted me in my task. When they helped me they helped the club and to put it simply the welfare of the club has always been my goal.

Over my term as chairman we set ambitious targets and goals. I have to confess that many of these lofty goals may not have been achieved; however I do hope that the foundations have been laid and the appropriate structure put in place to propel matters forward and bring many of our developments plans to fruition.

Again I wish to thank all club people who helped me in my task of fulfilling my duties as Chairman, I sincerely wish to thank my fellow officers who served with me and especially I want to thank Martina Burns for all the hard work she puts in. To my mind Martina is the perfect paradigm of a committed and conscientious GAA club member. She was indeed most helpful and respectful to me during my term as chairman.

No doubt there were times when there were differences between club people on different issues concerning the club. I fully acknowledge the fact and for the most part I never saw it as an unhealthy situation as I believe the differences were honestly held, I trust and hope that these differences have been dealt with and solved to the satisfaction of the parties involved.

I am also pleased to say as I depart the stage that preliminary plans have been made to stage a very big anniversary social event at the end of May 2017. This should be a tremendous occasion for the club and for all its members past and present. The club will be celebrating its success in 2016 as well as its 10th anniversary of junior victories in 2006/07and its 40th anniversary of the 1977 junior 2 victory. I understand that very high profile people have already accepted invites to attend this very special function. This is a gathering  that I am sure will be well supported  by all club members and supporters past and present, As departing club chairman I wish to thank all those involved in this venture. It will be a great boost for the club in general and I hope that everybody will be willing to put their shoulder to the wheel to ensure its success.

I would sincerely like to wish all the incoming officers every success with their tasks in 2017 and to extend good wishes to all club members and supporters for 2017.  May the year ahead be joyful, competitive and above all a year of true genuine commitment.

The 7 C’s was my slogan for the club when I commenced my duties as chairman.

Common Goals

Clocking the time and effort

Common sense

I leave my post as Chairman but I would like to beseech your indulgence to let me leave that slogan behind with the club and I would be very pleased if all genuine committed members of the club would embrace the 7 C’s and execute it for the betterment of the club and all associated with it. If it is embraced I am confident it will be a productive year for the club on all levels.

Finally I hope it will be a happy and harmonious year for all concerned with the future progress and the best interest of the club at heart.

Is mise le meas
